E.ON to invest €1.9 bn to build Rampion Offshore Wind Farm in UK

German electric utility service providers E.ON has announced to invest around €1.9 bn to build Rampion Offshore Wind Farm in the UK.

The project will be built in the English Channel, 13 km from the Sussex, and is expected to generate 400MW of electricity through 116 V112-3.45 MW turbines supplied by Vestas.

The wind farm will feature 116 3.45MW wind turbines, associated foundations, an offshore substation and cabling and will be built at water depth ranges from 19 to 40 meters.

Vestas said that the turbines will be supplied by Vestas Wind Systems to MHI Vestas Offshore Wind.

Under the deal, Vestas Wind Systems will supply 116 V112-3.45 MW turbines to the Rampion Offshore wind farm starting from 2017.

The project is expected to generate1,300GW hours of renewable energy per year which can reduce CO2 emissions by 600,000 tonnes per year.

E.ON said that it would provide construction, operations and energy management services to the project, and it plans to deliver 26 kilometers of onshore cables and onshore grid substation assets.

E.ON board member Mike Winkel said: "Our Rampion project starts from a strong position. Technically, the project is an optimized evolution of our four most recent offshore wind projects.

"We rely on proven technology and installation processes.

"With these preconditions E.ON will demonstrate its top-class competencies that we have developed in managing the construction and operation of offshore wind farms."

UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) has acquired €327m stake in the project.
