EDF led consortium selected preferred bidder for 150MW Moroccan wind project

A consortium led by EDF Energies Nouvelles in association with Mitsui & Company and Alstom has been selected by the Moroccan national electricity office, Office National d’Electricité (ONE) for the 150MW Taza wind project located in Morocco.

EDF Energies Nouvelles executive VP – new business development Fabienne Demol said the company is happy to be involved in the high quality wind project, which will be the first achievement of EDF Energies Nouvelles in Morocco.

"ONE’s decision on the Taza project is also a great opportunity for EDF EN to build a long term partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco and to participate in the creation of renewable projects in a country with high development potential."

Under a 20 year agreement EDF EN Maroc and Mitsui will design, finance, develop, construct and operate the Taza wind project facility, which will use 50 Alstom wind turbines of 3MW each.

The consortium will subcontract 30% of the construction works to Moroccan companies.

The wind project was launched in the second quarter of last year, under a public-private partnership.

ONE intends to tender an additional 850MW tender process whose procedure of pre-qualification are currently is in progress.
