FLiDAR wraps up wind measurements for offshore renewable energy project in Scotland

FLiDAR has finished wind measurements for the Mainstream Renewable Power’s Neart na Gaoithe wind farm in offshore Scotland.

The Belgian firm had deployed a floating LiDAR buoy for conducting the onsite wind measurements at the facility, which is located off the eastern coast of the Scotland.

The floating unit for the 448MW wind farm is being decommissioned at present.

The equipment is undergoing post validation tests at the ORE Catapult offshore met mast.

Neart na Gaoithe project manager David Sweenie said: "Mainstream recognized the innovative approach of FLiDAR from an early stage, bringing accurate wind data at low cost in a short delivery window. The data provided by FLiDAR has contributed to the great successes of Neart na Gaoithe so far. "

FLiDAR general manager Reinhardt Stevens said: "We are delighted to have delivered high availability and accurate wind data in such a short time to our client and congratulate Mainstream Renewable Power on being awarded the CfD."

Mainstream Renewable Power has recently received Contract for Difference (CfD) for the project.

3E and Offshore & Wind Assistance (OWA) are the developers for the FLiDAR technology, which has been able to save both development time and costs for the project, as compared to other similar meteorological masts.
