Enel Green Power brings 102MW wind energy project online in Mexico

Enel Green Power has joined the 102MW Sureste I-Phase II wind farm in Oaxaca, Mexico to the national grid, following its development.

Ixtepec Potencia substation, which is located nearby, will supply the wind energy generated at the facility to the grid.

The wind project, featuring 34 turbines having a capacity of 3MW each, is likely to produce 390 GWh of energy every year.

Enel Green Power has invested nearly $160m for the project, it said.

BBVA Bancomer Group has also provided a $100m loan to Enel Green Power for the project, a part of which had been spent on its development.

The Italian power company had acquired the project contract through a public tender held by Mexican state utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

The facility increases Enel Green Power’s installed portfolio in the country to 399MW, out of which 346MW is contributed by wind projects while the rest 53MW comprises of hydro power plants.

In 2014, the company had connected 100MW Dominica I wind project in San Luis Potosi state to the Mexican national grid.

The firm maintains a total renewable energy portfolio of 9.6GW which comprises of wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass projects. Enel Green Power has been responsible for nearly 740 power developments, which are spread across 15 countries worldwide.
