Nordex to install turbines at German wind farm

The farm located in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania state will employ rotors with a sweep of 7,854m² with the capability to generate high yields even in low to moderate wind speeds.

Nordex’s turbines are estimated to generate 64 million Kwh of clean energy a year, equivalent to the power needs of 16,000 homes.

Investors in the farm include a total of six private investors, a private cooperative and ten municipal utilities including Südwestdeutsche Stromhandels.

SüdWestStrom MD Bettina Morlok said that the firm selected the project for its municipal utilities in Suckow after exploring several options.

"Mid-size utilities in particular can invest small amounts in large projects via our cooperative model without having to shoulder the development risks," Morlok added.

"The commitment shown by the municipal utilities and citizens to the Suckow project shows that the municipal utilities will be playing an increasingly important role in the adoption of new methods of producing electricity in Germany."

Nordex expects to install the first few turbines by the end of 2012 with the entire farm scheduled to be complete by March-June 2013.
