Swinerton Renewable Energy to develop 104MW solar PV plant for Scatec Solar in Utah, US

Norwegian power provider Scatec Solar has awarded a 104MW contract to Swinerton Renewable Energy for construction of a ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) solar plant in Iron County, Utah, US.

Besides the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, Swinerton has also won the operations and maintenance deal for the project.

Dubbed as the Utah Red Hills park, the facility will have a direct current (DC) capacity and is likely to involve an investment of $188m.

Featuring around 325,000 solar PV modules on a single-axis tracking system, the farm will be able to generate enough electricity to power nearly 18,500 households annually and will be joined to an existing transmission line.

Presently under development on 650 acres of privately-owned land in Parowan, the facility is likely to be commissioned by the end of 2015.

PacifiCorp’s Rocky Mountain Power has signed a 20 year power purchase agreement (PPA) to acquire the plant’s output, which is around 210KWh annually.

Scatec Solar North America managing director Luigi Resta said: "The Utah Red Hills Renewable Park will provide the residents of Utah access to the superb solar power potential available in their state."
