Offshore structures foundation design

Offshore wind farm foundation design
Sea & Land has been involved in the design of renewable energy projects since 2001.
Its first project was for met masts in UK waters, followed by the design of wind turbine generator mono-pile foundations for a number of the projects tendered at that time. This resulted in the successful award of the foundation engineering for the Thanet offshore wind farm.
This project included the design of monopiles up to 5.2m diameter founded in chalk strata and the design of the substation.
Designing offshore substations
Sea & Land has provided designs for offshore substation foundations for the Amrumbank and Butendiek wind farms, as well as the demanding requirements of the German BSH.
The company also provided front-end engineering design (FEED) engineering for the Galloper Farm substation jacket, in addition to several other tender designs.
Tidal generator foundations
Sea & Land has worked with tidal-generation developers in providing foundation designs for prototype tidal generators that are currently being trialled at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) test facility in the Orkney Isles.
Such structures place demanding requirements on the design, not least because of the difficulty of installing structures in areas of strong tidal currents. Sea & Land has developed designs for both piled and gravity solutions.
Cable and scour protection systems
Sea & Land designs cable and scour protection systems based on the use of precast concrete mattresses. These have been widely used for the protection and stabilisation of pipelines and have proven to be as effective when used for cable protection and scour prevention around cable routes, jacket and monopile foundations.
