Ontario dismisses appeals against Capstone Infrastructure’s wind projects

The Ontario Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT) has dismissed appeals that were lodged against two of Capstone Infrastructure’s wind projects.

The decision upholds the renewable energy approvals (REAs) that were granted to the projects earlier.

According to the company, the first project is the 18MW ZEP Wind Farm Ganaraska, which will be built in the municipality of Clarington, Ontario.

The second project for which the appeal was dismissed is the 10MW Grey Highlands ZEP project, located in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Capstone Infrastructure president and chief executive officer Michael Bernstein said: "We’re pleased that these renewable energy projects can now move into the construction phase and will soon be providing clean electricity for Ontario.

"The build-out of Capstone’s wind development pipeline is a central part of our commitment to contributing to a more sustainable energy future and creating value for our shareholders."

Earlier in 2015, the company secured REAs from the Ministry for five Ontario wind projects and all of them were then subject to ERT hearings.

Following the dismissal of the Ganaraska and Grey Highlands ZEP appeals, the company is set to increase its generating capacity by 64 net megawatts once all are completed.
