SENER wins European Business Awards nomination for Gemasolar plant

Spanish based engineering and technology group SENER has been nominated for the European Business Awards for the Environment for its solar plant Gemasolar located in Seville, Spain.

SENER has been nominated in the activities and processes category and will compete with two other candidate companies to get the final prize.

It is the only Spanish company to receive this recognition, after a total of 156 nominations from 24 member countries of the European

The 19.9MW plant is the first commercial-scale plant in the world to apply central tower receiver and molten salt heat storage technology.

SENER has been responsible for all technological innovations and project engineering, as well as leading the construction, commissioning and commercial operation.

In addition, SENER is the owner of the plant through Torresol Energy, a company owned 60% by SENER.

The winners are expected to be announced next May in Brussels.
