Vestas to supply 75 turbines to Salt Fork wind power plant in Texas

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has received an order from independent power producer EDF Renewable Energy to supply 75 units of its V100-2.0 MW turbines for the Salt Fork wind power plant in Donley and Gray Counties, Texas.

The turbines will be capable of producing 150MW of energy in total.

According to Vestas, the V100-2.0 MW turbines features 100m rotor gains and 49m blades, and capable of delivering a notable rotor-to-generator ratio, which helps in boosting capacity and yield at low- and medium-wind sites, GE said.

Salt Fork project will have a total capacity of 200MW and scheduled to be completed by next year.

The company has already entered into a long-term power purchase agreement with Garland Power & Light, which will buy the output generated, by the Texan wind farm.

In December last year, Vestas entered into a Master Supply Agreement (MSA) with EDF Renewable Energy and the turbine supply is the first deal amongst the company under the MSA.

Under the latest agreenment, Vestas will not only supply the turbines but it will also be responsible for commissioning of the project as well.

The turbine maker has also entered into a 3-year Active Output Management (AOM 5000) service agreement with EDF to improve the energy production at the farm.

Vestas US sales and service division president Chris Brown said: "After closing the books last December on a master agreement that totalled almost 1,100 MW of capacity, we are very happy to kick off our next gigawatt-scale master agreement with EDF RE.

"Our workhorse 2 MW platform combines a long, dependable track record with competitive economic performance."

Earlier this month, EDF Renewable Energy had acquired the Salt Fork Wind Project from Cielo Wind Power.
