GeoSea completes foundations installation Westermost Rough wind farm

GeoSea completed installation of the foundations for the Dong Energy’s Westermost Rough (UK) offshore wind farm project located 9km from the coast near Hull in the north east of England, UK.

GeoSea, as main contractor for the foundations, was responsible for the transportation and installation of the foundations involving monopiles between 500T and 810T, with a diameter of 6,5m and transition pieces of around 367T.

The offshore wind installation vessel, Innovation, which is 50% owned by GeoSea and HGO each, transferred the five sets of monopiles and transition pieces across the North Sea for installation at the off shore site.

Featuring highly sophisticated piling frame and improved jacking procedures, both developed by GeoSea’s in-house engineering department, the vessel allows work in higher sea states and leads to decreased cycle times.

Westermost Rough wind farm will have 35 turbines, each with an output of 6MW.

The Westermost Rough wind farm will generate 210MW of clean electricity over an area of 35km², enough to power 160,000 homes.

In addition to addressing the UK’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, the project will contribute towards the UK’s goal to achieve its targets of electricity generation from renewable energy schemes.
