Azure Power commissions 50MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh, India


Azure Power, a solar power producer in India, has commissioned the final phase of its 50MW solar power plant in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

This project is located on more than 300 acres of land.

Azure Power will offer power for 25 years at a tariff of Rs4.78 (~$ 0.07) per kWh to NTPC, which is the largest state-owned power utility.

The firm won the 50MW power purchase agreement through an auction under the National Solar Mission Phase II, Batch-II Tranche I.

According to Central Electricity Authority, the state has large power supply deficit. CRISIL estimates that more than 10 million households will be electrified by 2019.

Azure Power developed its the first solar project in Uttar Pradesh in 2015.

Azure Power founder, chairman and chief executive officer Inderpreet Wadhwa said: “With the commissioning of this plant, we have once again demonstrated our strong project development, engineering, and execution capabilities."

The firm has a portfolio of over 1,000MWs across 22 states/union territories.
