Hive Energy commissions new solar plant in Turkey

Hive Energy has commissioned a new photovoltaics (PV) solar power plant in Adıyaman, Turkey, thereby marking the company’s first investment in the country.

The 10MW plant started supplying electricity to the grid at the end of last month.

Built by Hive Energy, the plant is designed to generate roughly 18 million kwh of green, clean electricity annually, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 1,300 apartments.

The resultant output is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 10,800t a year.

Development of the Adıyaman solar park required a total investment of $11m, which was provided by unnamed investors based in the UK.

In the short-term construction phase of the firm, 40 new jobs were created. The firm expects to add ten new jobs for maintenance purposes during its 25-year of operation.

Hive Energy Turkey general manager Tolga Metin said: “Throughout the planning and construction phase we worked hard to use local workmanship, materials and services.

“This park is an excellent example of how Foreign Direct Investment can have a positive impact on Turkey’s economic growth.”

The current geographical and political scenarios of Turkey have made the country one of the best place forsolar power generation across Europe, with the annual average insolation duration reaching 7.2hr per day.

According to Hive Energy, covering only one half of 1% of the land in the country with solar panels would be sufficient enough to produce all of the electricity consumed.

Last month, Hive Energy secured planning approval for the development of Andalucia’s first subsidy free 45.6MW solar park in Espejo, Cordoba region in Spain.
